Many believe that the richness of Intersection is in this diversity and inclusiveness, the mingling of guest, donor, volunteer – the sharing and celebrating of our common humanity.
The Intersection was founded in 1972 by the Sisters of Mercy. It is located at 115 Seventh Avenue in McKeesport, Pennsylvania. The Intersection serves individuals and families in McKeesport and the surrounding areas who are economically poor, disadvantaged and in need. Many persons come who are unable to find help from any other source. Not only do they find help themselves but they also are able to give help to others. Respect for the dignity of each person is of primary importance.
The Intersection depends on the support of dedicated volunteers, religious or church groups of various denominations, civic organizations, local businesses, and private individuals who donate to our cause. We do qualify for donations through the Contributor Choice Program (code #433) under the United Way. We also are listed in the Combined Federal Campaign (code #78821), and in the Pennsylvania State Employee Combined Appeal (SECA). In-kind donations from individuals or groups include food, supplies, hygiene items, clothing, bedding, small household items, and volunteer services.
